What Is Celliant Energy?

Celliant’s trademark is “POWER FROM WITHIN” and is a clear and succinct explanation of what Celliant Energy is.

To break it down a bit further, Celliant uses naturally occurring, thermo-reactive minerals along with the perfect blend of 88 trace elements to create Celliant Technology. Essentially, your body’s heat energy is transformed into infrared energy and reportedly provides various benefits.

How Well Does Celliant Technology Really Work?

Have you ever been disappointed after you used a product because the company you bought it from promised results you didn’t see? We’ve probably all been there. Now, when we purchase a product, we’re a lot more wary of the magical things claimed in advertisements because they might be exaggerated, or flat out not true. So trust us when we say, we also had raised eyebrows when we learned the supposed benefits of Celliant technology. That’s why we dug through the internet to do some research about how Celliant works in, for example, the Bear Mattress, and others.

The CEO of Hologenix, a.k.a. the originators of Celliant, claims “our technology can be used in everyday products…to create an increase in local blood flow thereby increasing energy, boosting performance, and speeding muscle recovery.”

Celliant fabric is a combination of 13 different thermo-reactive minerals, woven within the fibers of polyethylene terephthalate (a type of polyester). The minerals in the fabric absorb your body heat, transform it into infrared energy, and return it back to your body through your skin. Infrared energy is a type of vasodilator which increases blood flow, and an increase in blood circulation means a boost in energy, faster recovery for muscle tissue, and more.

In fact, the United States F.D.A concluded in 2017 that Celliant counts as a medical device, as it “temporarily promotes increased blood flow at the sight of application in healthy individuals.”

It’s one thing to have a company tell you their product is beneficial for your health, but it’s another when a government organization comments on it. Not only that, but they went as far as saying it’s officially recognized as a medical device — and we think that’s a pretty big deal.

Can Celliant Help Me Sleep Better?

So, what’s all the fuss about? Is Celliant really going to help you get better sleep?

All signs point to yes.

Mattresses and bedding (we hear there is even sleepwear, too) with Celliant Technology have been scientifically proven to give you longer and better quality sleep. In a Celliant Pilot sleep study, it was found that 2.6% of people fell asleep faster, got an average of 18.3 more minutes of sleep per night and 8.4% woke up feeling more energized.

Benefits of Celliant

  • Better body temperature regulation
  • Improved sleep quality
  • Improves sleep efficiency resulting in falling asleep faster
  • Increases sleep duration
  • Improves rejuvenation and energy after sleep

How Does Celliant Work?

If all of this sounds like a bunch of too-good-to-be-true magic, let’s dig into how Celliant really works.

This proprietary blend of minerals and fibers uses your body heat to create infrared energy. The body emits heat into the fabric, and then the fabric uses that heat to create infrared energy that returns to the body and is absorbed by our muscles and tissues. The infrared energy delivered to the body increases local circulation and oxygen, which delivers you so many benefits.

What is infrared energy?

Infrared energy is created from infrared waves, which are part of the electromagnetic spectrum. They are all around us, every day, but we can’t see them. Any time you use something, like a remote control, you are using infrared light waves.

Some infrared energy is sensed by us as heat. A great example of infrared energy is the heat emitted from the human body. Though we cannot see the heat, thermal imaging detects the infrared waves and allows us to see them.

Celliant Technology goes a step further, using that infrared heat created by your body and its materials to deliver various health benefits back to you.

Is Celliant Safe For You And Your Family?

The process where Celliant turns your body heat into infrared energy and emits it back into your body is 100% natural and noninvasive. It harnesses your body’s own energy that it naturally produces, and recycles it back into your skin tissue. Infrared energy has actually been used as a method of healing for thousands of years, with evidence showing it was practiced in ancient Greece and China. So yes, Celliant is 100% safe for anybody to use, even kids.

Some people may be asking, is it possible to be allergic to the material? It’s a valid concern, but it’s important to note that there hasn’t been one reported since Celliant was created in 2003. It’s probably more likely that someone will be allergic to the polyester fiber the thermo-active materials are woven into. If this is the case for you, you might want to be more cautious with Celliant. Otherwise, so far so good.

Where Can I Find Celliant Fabric Technology?

Celliant technology isn’t exclusive to scientists in labs or high profile athletes before a championship game. It can be, but it’s really meant to be used in mundane products for your average, active individual. You can find Celliant fabric in gloves, ski boots, sheets, mattresses, blankets, jackets, wet suits, even airplane seats.

Products manufactured with Celliant fabric can be found in stores all over the world, like in your local Bed Bath and Beyond or REI. It just depends on the type of product you’re looking for.

At the time of this post, the official Celliant website is in the process of adding a shopping section to their website, so you’ll be able to find Celliant products there too. Just make sure to check back every once in a while to see if the page is live, or enter your email on their website to get notified when the page is accessible.

The Benefits Of A Celliant Mattress

We’ve tested out a few beds with Celliant fabric here at The Slumber Yard, including Bear Hybrid and the Amerisleep mattress. While we don’t have the fancy lab equipment readily available like the professionals had for their case studies, folks on our team have slept on Bear and claimed they saw a difference in their quality of sleep. Mattresses containing Celliant aren’t made up entirely of the material, it usually takes up about 1/5th of a mattress because that’s all you need to reap its benefits. But aside from what we thought, let’s see what the researchers had to say about the matter.

In 2009, Dr. Marcel Hungs at the University of California, Irvine conducted a Pilot Sleep Study with Celliant fabric technology to determine how well it actually improved people’s sleep. They concluded that folks spent 18.3 less minutes awake during the night, and slept an average of 42 minutes less overall. Before you question if less sleep is a bad or good thing, these results suggest the subjects got a better quality sleep and didn’t need the extra 42 minutes rest.

Can I Buy Sheets With Celliant Technology?

There are plenty of other sleep products beside mattresses you can invest in that contain Celliant, like sheets and blankets, for example. If you aren’t looking to spend the money on a brand new mattress, buying linen infused with Celliant is the next best thing. Aside from being beneficial to the quality of your sleep, Celliant is also good at making sure you don’t overheat in the middle of the night. When you have an increase in blood flow, your body self regulates your core temperature, keeping you from getting too hot during the middle of the night.

It doesn’t need to be in direct contact with your skin for you to feel the results, since infrared energy can penetrate through multiple layers of material. So you won’t have to worry if the technology is working while you’re wearing your pajamas or clothes under a Celliant blanket/sheet.

What About Celliant Clothing And Pajamas?

There are other ways to take advantage of Celliant’s benefits other than sleeping on it. Like we mentioned before, you can also buy clothes with Celliant technology interlaced between the fabric. We think Celliant clothes are especially beneficial for folks who are particularly active because it speeds up the muscle tissue recovery process that naturally occurs after exercise.

In a 2003 study by Dr. Lawrence Lavery, Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at Loyola University Medical Center, he found folks who wore 50% Celliant socks and 100% Celliant gloves showed a “significant increase in oxygen delivery to the skin.”

What does that mean for people who regularly workout? Well, according to Dr. Lavery, “An 8 to 14% improvement in oxygenation could increase circulation enough to improve wound-healing or eliminate leg pain caused by atherosclerosis or other blood flow obstructions.” So it won’t turn you into Wolverine from X-Men per say, but you may get some enhanced healing abilities from wearing Celliant technology.

Final Thoughts

Sleep is a necessary part of survival. Whether you love sleep or loathe it, you need it. It is the time your body repairs cells, restores energy, stores new information and rids itself of toxic waste. It’s safe to say, sleep is amazing.

Take the already incredible benefits of sleep and combine that with the added benefits of Celliant technology, and you’ve majorly upped your sleep game. If you’re interested in giving Celliant Technology a go, we’ve covered some options to get you started.
